Whispers of India brings you an exclusive range of handwoven stoles.

Each scarf is a unique piece, made by an artist in rural India. Using the finest silks, muslin, and cotton, the stole is created using age-old knowledge passed down over generations.  

Our work helps promote the traditional textile arts of handloom weaving, giving support to the artist community in rural India. We are committed to reducing the carbon footprint of the world of textiles. Everything we offer is made by hand on a traditional loom, and therefore requires no energy source! All the dyes are organic and azo-free.

Indigo Batik

Hand Batik is a technique of wax-resist dyeing applied to stole. Batik is made either by drawing dots and lines of the resist with a spouted tool called a canting, or by printing the resist with a copper stamp called a cap.

Very fine 100 count hand spun cotton feels so soft to the touch. Intricate geometric traditional art is woven onto this Jamdani stole. Every single pattern is delicately woven directly onto the stole, using an intricate method that requires great skill, concentration, and sometimes months of dedication.

WHITE & PINK JAMDANI

The pure white cotton is decorated with tiny pink dots, leading to an elaborate pattern of leaves, with tassels at the end.

The delicate pink leaves seem to move in the wind, as the soft fine cotton glides. Each leaf is created separately using a dedicated spindle. The pattern is woven directly onto the cloth, hence required tremendous care and concentration. Depending on the complexity of the design, a finished Jamdani stole can take months of work to complete.

GREY AJRAKH

The world Azrakh is 'blue' in Arabic. This is one of the principal colors used. Symmetrical patterns with splashes of color make this quite distinctive.

The softest mulberry silk is intricately decorated with hand dyed Ajrakh design. This art of the Kutch region of India is very ancient - dating back to the Indus Valley Civilization (1500BC).

Printed using intricately carved blocks, this hand made creation use many imprints, creating repetitions in the pattern.

This resist technique has many steps and multiple processes, rending a complex and detailed finished stole.
